It's MARCH MADNESS @ the Library!

Hey, sports fans! March Madness is here, and it is time for you to talk some trash and pick which book is going to come out on top.   Come by to the library and take a look at our DHS Library March Tournament bracket chart and check out a book (or, hey, grab all of the books) on the display. Vote on the books you think will win in each bracket.  We start off with a "Sweet Sixteen" set of titles. At the end of the first week, the winners are revealed, and the books move on (with a bracket of the "Elite Eight"). You get the idea. When we are down to the last two, vote for your favorite.   During week one, make your prediction for the Champion Library book. If you guess right, you may win a prize (as yet to be determined!) Weekly drawings for DHS Cafe Coupons or Cavalatte Coupons are planned throughout the tourney!

Here are the titles up for Best Book at Dorman's Library:

Want to know the "seed" of each title? No problem, here is the list in rank order from #1 to #16. These books were selected based on their circulations from February 2012 through February 2013.
  1. Catching Fire
  2. Legend
  3. Blue plate special
  4. Mockingjay
  5. Wake
  6. The Hunger Games
  7. Firestorm
  8. Something Like Hope
  9. Fade
  10. The First Part Last
  11. So, So Hood
  12. This World We Live In
  13. Gone
  14. The Son of Neptune
  15. Thirteen Reasons Why
  16. The Throne of Fire

So come by the library each week to vote on a title in a bracket.  During the first week, enter our contest to predict the winner.  There will be weekly prizes (in the form of a Cavalatte or Cafe Coupon) so enter each opportunity offered!  When we are down to a single winner, all who guessed correctly go into the grand prize drawing for the gift certificate.  Sorry teachers, this one is only open to students!!

P.S. Special thanks to my friend and teacher librarian Susan Meyers over at Spartanburg High School for the inspiration to do this.

Books2Movies@Dorman

Dorman’s library is pumped up about many of our current most popular reads either currently in theaters or planned as an coming movie!! To celebrate this, we have pulled books we know about for a display and are sponsoring a Books2Movie contest based on the Oscars!! Cast your ballot for the 85th Annual Oscars Awards (available at the desk or online) and get yourself entered into a drawing for a movie pass! Stop by and checkout one of our books featured in theaters now (or place a hold--these books are very popular!!)

Entries that have 50% or better accuracy go into a drawing for a movie pass and a free book!!

Happy Valentine's Day Dorman

To celebrate Valentines and the month of love all month long, we created a book display we are calling "Blind Date with a Book."  The gist of it is that going on a blind date means you know next to nothing about the date, but go to get to know the date. Our display is asking you to read a little teaser (on the heart of each red wrapped book) and then bring it to the desk to checkout (and this case "date" the unknown book!)  Just a fun way to promote reading.  No strings.  Students are not obligated to check out a book they unwrap if they decide it's not their type (or better, they've already read it-->YES, that actually happened with the first student to give one a try!!)

Props to Teacher Librarians Jen Cheseny at Powdersville High School of Anderson 1 and Heather Loy at Wagener High School of Aiken County Schools for the idea and sharing pictures too.

The Breathless Tour is coming to Greenville!

The Fiction Addiction, a local bookstore in Greenville, SC, has a special event next week and some of our students (and teachers) may want to take advantage of the unique opportunity! Tuesday, February 12th, at 6:30 pm, five YA authors will be at Fiction Addiction behind Haywood Mall to talk about (and sign) their books as part of the Breathless Reads tour.  The authors are Beth Revis, Morgan Rhodes, Fiona Paul, Elizabeth Richards, and Jessica Spotswood.  Beth Revis, in particular, will be giving away an ARC of an upcoming book to one lucky attendee. Tickets for the event are $15, but each ticket can be redeemed toward purchase of authors' books prior to or at the event.  $50 VIP tickets are also available.

For more information or to purchase tickets, go to http://www.fiction-addiction.com/.

Your Dorman Library does have a few books by these authors available on the shelf:
